Earlier this week in Guarulhos, Brazil, Yasmin Saraiva was relaxing at home when an unusual noise drew her to the window. Down on the street, a small crowd had gathered — and they weren’t looking at her. They were looking up.
That’s when she saw it.
Dangling from an upstairs window was her neighbor’s dog, Alicinha. The pup had slipped through an open top-floor window covered by a safety net.
While the bottom of the netting was secure, the top was loosely attached — and in her panic, Alicinha had climbed upward, toward the very gap that could send her falling.
Saraiva didn’t hesitate. “I didn’t think, I just acted,” she told The Dodo.
She dashed around her apartment, spotted a sturdy box, and rushed outside. Positioning herself directly underneath, she held it out just in time.
Here’s dramatic footage of what happened next:
With one heart-stopping drop, Alicinha landed safely inside.
“Thank God that box was very strong!” Saraiva said. “It managed to hold the dog.”
Incredibly, the little dog wasn’t hurt at all. Minutes later, she was curled up in Saraiva’s living room as if nothing had happened — watching TV like a guest who’d simply stopped by.
But for the people who witnessed it, this was no ordinary afternoon.
“A true hero!” one person commented on the rescue video.
“What an example of courage and compassion,” another wrote. “The world needs more people like this!”
Today, Alicinha is back home with her owner — safe, sound, and blissfully unaware of how close she came to disaster.
