Woman Picks Up Her Dog From Daycare — But Something Feels ... Off

Reddit user Katybugfoster thought she was having an ordinary day when she pulled up to her dog’s daycare. Her black Lab, Angus, has been a regular there for years, and their pick-up routine has become second nature.

“We’ve always had a great experience with them,” she told The Dodo. “They know Angus well.”

But this time, when a happy black Lab came trotting out to greet her, something felt just a little… strange.

Angus — or so she thought — jumped into the car like usual and rode home quietly. But as soon as they walked into the house, the odd behavior started.

“He began sniffing everyone,” she said. “Normally, Angus just bolts to the door, excited to be home. But this time, it was like he’d never been there before.”

That’s when a creeping suspicion began to grow. Over the next ten minutes, Katybugfoster kept noticing small things that didn’t add up. The dog was acting strange. Unfamiliar, even.

“At first I thought he might’ve been hurt or was just overstimulated from daycare,” she said. “But the more I watched him, the more I doubted myself — and him.”

Trusting her gut, she checked one specific feature: Angus’s chipped tooth. But the dog in front of her didn’t have it.

That’s when it hit her. This wasn’t Angus.

She had accidentally brought home a lookalike.

Back in the car they went — the mystery pup in tow — heading straight back to the daycare to figure out what had gone wrong.

The daycare staff were immediately apologetic. As it turned out, the dog she’d taken home was named Billy — another black Lab who looked remarkably similar to Angus. To make the confusion worse, Billy had been sent home wearing Angus’s collar.

Billy’s actual owner was already there when she returned, and everyone shared a laugh over the wholesome case of mistaken identity.

“It was a completely innocent mix-up,” Katybugfoster said. “Honestly, the dogs do look almost identical.”

As for Angus, he seemed slightly offended by the delay — even though he had no idea what had happened. But once he was home, all was right in the world again.

“I was so relieved to have him back,” she said. “And now I look at him like, ‘How could I ever have mistaken another dog for you?’”
