Selina Dey has dedicated her life to rescuing vulnerable animals on the streets of Bali, Indonesia.
As a solo dog rescuer, she’s seen her fair share of suffering — but nothing could have prepared her for what she found when she pulled over one day after hearing strange cries from the roadside.
“I heard the screams from the street while driving on my scooter,” Selina shared in an Instagram video.
Following the sound, she spotted a tiny, trembling creature wedged deep in a roadside ditch. It was a nearly hairless puppy — pink, wrinkly, and wagging her tail despite the odds.
“She couldn’t get out, so I climbed down [to] where she was stuck,” Selina said. “I picked her up and took her into my heart.”
A Rescue Against All Odds
The pup, later named Jenny, was gently placed in an empty shopping bag — the only transport Selina had on hand.
But her rescue came at a difficult time: Bali was observing Nyepi, a day of silence and reflection when everything shuts down, including vets and pharmacies.
“There was a holiday here on the island and everything shut down,” Selina wrote. “No vet, pet shop or pharmacy was open, so I just did everything in my knowledge and power to save this girl.”
Thankfully, Selina’s home was stocked with emergency supplies. She gave Jenny her first medicated bath, treated her skin, and did everything possible to ease her pain.
Love, Patience, and Puppy Strength
Those first nights were hard. Jenny often cried in discomfort, her tiny body ravaged by neglect. But Selina stayed by her side, wrapping her in unconditional love.
“She probably never felt love like that before,” Selina wrote. “I showered her in love — and medical baths.”
Once clinics reopened, Jenny finally got a full veterinary checkup and officially began her recovery journey. Slowly but surely, the frightened little pup began to heal — inside and out.
“She improved, and her playfulness and character came to light,” Selina said. “Her beautiful hair started growing back, and she became the happy puppy she was meant to be.”
From Pink and Wrinkly to Radiant and Thriving
As weeks passed, Jenny transformed. Her skin healed, her coat grew in, and her personality blossomed. She went from a helpless roadside rescue to a joyful little soul who now plays, cuddles, and charms everyone she meets.
“She just flourished like a little flower,” Selina told The Dodo. “This hair that came out was basically her character coming out.”
Now a bouncy foster pup living in Selina’s home, Jenny spends her days playing with dog friends, being adored by her foster mom, and soaking up the love she almost never got to experience.
“She is absolutely in love with every other dog,” Selina said. “She likes to be the center of the universe.”
Waiting for Her Forever
Jenny isn’t adopted yet — but with her story touching hearts around the world, Selina knows it’s only a matter of time before she finds the perfect home.
“I cannot believe how strong this beautiful soul is,” Selina wrote. “I am so grateful she fought her way back to life.”
Until then, “Little Jenny” will continue to live the good life, surrounded by love and proof that second chances are always possible.
