Most of the time, spiders stay tucked away in hidden corners where we hardly notice them. But for Australia native Bianca Merrick, there was no missing the one that decided to join her on her commute.
As she drove home from work, Bianca glanced up — and locked eyes with a giant huntsman spider clinging inside her car. Huntsman spiders may be harmless and even friendly, but their size can make them an intimidating sight.
“I was on my way home from work when I looked up and saw it staring at me,” Bianca told 7News. “I considered stopping but I didn’t know how I’d get it out of the car, so I thought the best option was to keep driving and pretend it wasn’t there — for the longest 20 minutes of my life.”
Despite her nerves, Bianca kept calm and decided not to disturb her unexpected passenger. Once she reached home, she simply got out, locked the car and went inside — hoping the spider would move on by itself.
By the next morning, her gamble had worked. The huntsman had vanished, leaving no trace behind.
Though Bianca was more than a little relieved, her cool-headed response kept both her and the spider safe. And while most people might panic in the same situation, her story is proof that choosing peace over fear is often the best way to handle wildlife encounters.
After all, even the biggest, scariest-looking spiders deserve to live too.
