While strolling along the waterfront in Key West, Florida, Delaney and her fiancé, Carl, were soaking in the early morning calm when something unusual caught their eye. Tacked above a small porthole on a shrimp boat was a big pink sign that simply read:
“Kissing booth, call Luna.”
The couple smiled. As devoted animal lovers who often search for furry friends on their travels — especially when missing their own dogs back home — the sign was irresistible. Just minutes earlier, they’d noticed a black-and-white pup lounging in the sun on the stern of the boat.
That’s when everything clicked.
“I realized the sign was inviting us to meet the dog!” Delaney told The Dodo.
Following the sign’s instructions, they called out “Luna!” — and within seconds, an eager little face appeared in the porthole, tail wagging and eyes beaming.
“She was so excited to see people,” Delaney said. “She didn’t even care about the treat we brought — she just wanted love.”
You can watch that moment here:
Luna, the pup behind the porthole, clearly took her job at the kissing booth very seriously. She leaned into every pat and eagerly handed out kisses, winning the hearts of Delaney and Carl instantly.
They spent nearly ten minutes with her, joined by Delaney’s sister and best friend, while chatting with Luna’s dad, who was relaxing nearby. That’s when they learned Luna’s full story — she had been adopted from the Humane Society of St. Lucie County and now spent her days sailing through the Florida Keys and greeting friendly faces along the docks.
Despite whatever hardships she may have faced in the past, Luna radiated joy. Whether it was soaking up the sun or showering strangers with affection, it was clear she was thriving in her second chance at life.
“She was just so full of love,” Delaney said. “I got a little nervous she might tumble out of the porthole trying to reach us, but you could tell she’s done this before — she’s a pro.”
Eventually, the group had to say goodbye and continue their day. But for Delaney and her family, that surprise encounter with Luna was the highlight of their trip.
“We’re really close with our dogs,” Delaney said. “So finding Luna by chance — such a sweet soul — felt like a little gift. She made us so happy.”
