One look at this little munchkin is all it will take to melt your heart and make you weak in the knees. But Bonsai, a rescued English Bulldog, is more than just an adorable face: At only a few months old, this brave pup has gone through quite the ordeal.
According to PetCaring.com, Bonsai was born with multiple deformities, including half of a spine and a missing pelvis, which prevented him from sitting, standing, and walking. His flat chest and immobility are similar to a condition known as “Swimmer's Syndrome,” but his case is more drastic due to his malformed hind legs. Unsure of the best way to handle his medical care, his original owners reached out to Friends of Emma, a rescue organization, for help when he was only three-and-a-half weeks old.

While this sweet pup has quite the laundry list of medical conditions, his hind legs were the biggest problem—they seemed to be Bonsai's only cause of pain. His rescuers decided to amputate them so he could live a happy life.

During the surgery, doctors had to be extra careful that Bonsai was in a position where he could get enough oxygen. His tiny chest caused some complications and the surgeon literally worked upside-down for the entire procedure. But Bonsai proved to be a strong little fighter.

The operation was successful, allowing this sweet pup to live a good life even though he literally looks like half of a bulldog. He's now going through an intensive round of muscle therapy and rehabilitation, but we think he's already proved he can handle anything the world has to throw at him. He's quite the playful little puppy, which is good considering all we want to do is pinch his little cheeks and rub his tiny belly!

Luckily for this miracle pup, he even has an older “brother” who's also a double amputee to inspire him.
