Kai and Skala do everything together. The German shepherd/husky siblings are inseparable — best friends, wrestling partners and constant companions. And sometimes, it seems like they’re so close they merge into a single creature.
Their dad, Joe (known online as BeanzMeanzBranston), accidentally proved that in a now-viral optical illusion that has the internet utterly baffled.

“Kai, the boy, is the goofy troublemaker,” Joe told The Dodo. “Skala will be asleep, and he’ll grab her by the tail to tell her it’s time for a play fight. If she’s not in the mood, she reminds him — loudly.”

Recently, during one of those playful tussles, Joe snapped a quick picture to send to his girlfriend. Only later did he notice the bizarre perspective he’d captured.
“I caught them at the perfect moment,” Joe said.
He posted the image to Reddit with the caption: “My dogs share a mouth sometimes.” Even with the hint, viewers were completely lost trying to figure out where one dog ended and the other began.

“Some people get it instantly,” Joe said. “Others think it’s a mirror image, or Photoshop. The trick is to zoom in on the front teeth — you can see the two jaws overlapping.”
The confusing picture set off a huge debate. Some people insisted the dogs looked like a glitching video-game monster. “If this was an IQ test, I definitely failed,” one person joked. Another wrote, “I know there are two dogs… I just can’t tell which parts belong to who.”
Eventually, a helpful Redditor even drew a diagram outlining each dog’s head to help everyone make sense of the chaos.

For Joe, this is just life with Kai and Skala — full of antics, energy and endless amusement.
“They love to run, then crash out for hours,” he said. “They’re smart enough to understand commands… they just don’t always care to follow them.”

If the viral photo proves anything, it’s this: with these two, two heads — and apparently one mouth — really are better than one.
