The Blair Pug Project: A Vet Student’s Hysterical Synopsis of Trimming a Pug’s Nails

Trimming nails on your Pug is not always a fun job. Some pugs are reluctant, even terrified of getting their nails trimmed.

Some even starts screaming, yelping, and moving around constantly. You fight tooth and nails (no pun intended) to get their nails cut… the ultimate challenge of grit and persistence.

Have you ever experienced the pleasure of trimming a pug's (or any reluctant dog's / animal's) nails?

Well, this 2nd year veterinary student, Roberta who's studying at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University sure can relate!

Check out her hysterical synopsis of trimming a pug's nails on the next page:

  1. Our pug is 15 years old and he even nips at my mom when she tries to clip his nails. Vet too. We just figured it was because he was old and a bit grumpy. Glad to see it wasn’t our fault he is like that.

  2. This was my most favorite Pug Pongo’s reaction. Although he was never ever hurt during a nail clipping…he would screw this horrible scream when his nails were clipped. I finally got an electric file. He calmed down after awhile with that. But I even had neighbors coming over thinking that Pongo must have been hit by a car or something horrible because he made such a terrible racket when his nails were clipped. I miss him something awful, he passed away 4 years ago. God bless you Pongo!!!

  3. Our pug turned into a Tasmanian Devil, even though he seldom reacted when we actually manages to trim a nail. It was just the whole process that was traumatic. Now my husband sits him up on his lap and rubs his tummy. We have cheese handy. We give him cheese before I get the clipper (the scissors type with a notched blade), my husband keeps up the tummy rubs, and we keep giving the pug bits of cheese as a distraction/reward. We manage to get all four feet done in one sitting.
