Terrified Pups Hiding In A Drainpipe Finally Learn What Love Feels Like

When two frightened puppies, later named Mimi and Momo, were abandoned in rural Georgia, they didn’t know where to turn.

Lost and alone, they crawled into a narrow drainpipe, seeking shelter from the world that had let them down. That dark pipe became their home — and their hiding place.

When Audray Luck, founder of Luck’s Rescue, heard about the pair, she knew she had to help. But rescuing them wouldn’t be easy.

“The dogs were very skittish and scared,” Luck said in a video for The Dodo. “They hadn’t had much human love. They’d come close to eat from our hands, but wouldn’t let us touch them or slip on a leash.”

Determined not to give up, Luck returned the next day with a new plan. She placed food inside a crate, hoping their hunger would overcome their fear. It was a long shot — but it worked. One by one, the pups stepped inside, and for the first time, they were safe.

Even after their rescue, Mimi and Momo remained nervous, too traumatized to accept affection. But Luck’s patience never wavered.

“All I wanted to do was give them love,” she said. “So I kept trying.”

After spending a few days decompressing with Luck, the dogs were transferred to an experienced foster mom who specialized in helping fearful dogs learn to trust again. Slowly, the pups began to relax.

They started wagging their tails. They leaned into gentle pets. And eventually, they realized — people could be kind.

In time, Mimi and Momo were ready for adoption. Today, both dogs have found loving forever homes, where they no longer need to hide to feel safe.

From a cold drainpipe to warm beds and open arms — Mimi and Momo’s story is proof that love and patience can heal even the deepest fear.
