In mid-June, a pittie named Bullet was surrendered to the Carson Animal Shelter in Los Angeles. His family didn’t leave a note explaining why — just dropped him off and walked away.
Shelter volunteer Janallyn Vega was heartbroken. “Owners typically leave a reason,” she said. “His owners left it blank, so we’re not sure why they no longer wanted him.”
The mystery only deepened as the staff got to know Bullet. Far from being a problem dog, he was gentle, loving, and endlessly affectionate.
“Bullet is literally a tiny baby in a dog’s body,” Vega said. “He’s so sweet, it’s impossible not to fall in love with him.”
Eager to help him find a new home quickly, the shelter brought Bullet to an adoption event. From the moment it began, Bullet shone.
“He was a hit,” Vega said. “So many families stopped to say hi. He’s great with people and kids, and he just soaked up the attention he doesn’t usually get at the shelter.”
At one point, it seemed like a family was ready to adopt him — but they backed out at the last minute.
By the end of the event, every single dog had been adopted. Except Bullet.
“I can’t tell you why he wasn’t chosen … He’s a dream dog,” Vega said. “Maybe those just weren’t his people.”
As Bullet was loaded back into the van, his face told the story: he looked crushed. Vega couldn’t let that be the end of it.
“I posted a video of him as we were packing up,” she explained. “I just wanted to help him find his people.”
The video struck a chord. Within hours, it went viral. Thousands of people fell in love with Bullet, sharing his story and hoping the right family would see him.
And then, it happened. Within two days, Bullet had a home.
Today, he’s safe and adored, with a new name — Stitch — and a new pittie sister named Lilo. The pair are inseparable, and Stitch finally has the life he always deserved.
He’ll never again be the dog left behind.
