Snuggling with a dog at bedtime is one of the greatest joys of being a pet parent. Realizing this, an animal shelter in Ohio has implemented a ‘Holiday Sleepover’ program with hopes of getting more dogs in their shelter adopted.

“Plenty of people are looking for some extra companionship at this time of year,” Kaye Dickson, the director of the Franklin County Dog Shelter in Columbus, Ohio, told ABC News. “So many families have great memories of dogs at their holiday get-togethers.”

Potential adopters are approved to take home a shelter dog for a few days and then bring him back. The trouble is, the family usually bonds with the dog and they miss them too much when they go back.
One dog mom, Kelly Connelly, fell head over heels for a dog she brought home as part of the program. She ended up adopting him shortly after Thanksgiving.

Connelly told Good Morning America that her newly adopted dog, Rosie, was a perfect fit for the family and that she cuddled next to them in bed. Though Rosie has been through a lot in her life, she is definitely home for the holidays.

What a wonderful idea and we hope more shelters take note of the success of this ‘Sleepover Program’ and implement one in their area.
