Pocatello Zoo members became perplexed when they saw an elk messing with his water trough for an extended period of time.
Dr. Joy Fox was one of the officials to notice Shooter’s strange behavior and set out to investigate.
Shooter the elk would dip his head into the water repeatedly.

He did this for a while — a lot longer than was needed for a drink.

He even pawed at the water trough.

The unusual and odd behavior lasted for around 15 minutes.

Shooter then was able to use his antlers to help pull something small and fuzzy out of the water.

It happened to be another resident of the zoo — a marmot!

They didn’t know what was about to happen at this point…

But the friendly elk simply lay the little fella on the ground to save its life!
