For more than 400 days, a gentle 6-year-old pittie mix named Radiance has been waiting for her forever family at the Newark Associated Humane Society.
Everyone who meets her falls in love. Staff and volunteers call her a “sweetheart,” a “lovebug,” and a “100% good girl.” And thanks to a dedicated TikTok creator, thousands of people who’ve never met Radiance adore her, too.
Over the past few months, content creator Olivia Marcus has shared over 30 videos of Radiance — clips that have racked up more than 1.5 million views. Viewers gush over her playful personality and soulful eyes.
But despite all the love online, Radiance hasn’t received a single adoption application.
“Despite all of those views and comments, she has still not had literally a single person apply to adopt her,” Marcus said. “She is still sitting in that kennel.”
Radiance’s journey began when she was picked up as a stray and brought to the shelter over a year ago. Because of her adorable looks and gentle nature, staff thought she would be adopted right away.
Instead, she’s become the shelter’s longest-term resident — affectionately nicknamed the “queen” of the humane society.
No one can quite figure out why she keeps being overlooked. Radiance does need to be the only dog in a home, but beyond that, she has no special restrictions. She loves people, is well-mannered in public, and thrives on attention.
“I don’t understand it — she is the sweetest girl in the world,” Marcus said. “It breaks my heart that she doesn’t have a home yet.”
The stress of shelter life has started to take a toll on Radiance. She’s developed a stress-induced rash, and it’s clear she longs for the peace and comfort of a real home.
Still, Marcus and the team refuse to give up.
“I think it’s so important for me to advocate for Radiance because she cannot advocate for herself,” Marcus said.
Radiance may have been waiting for over a year, but she hasn’t given up on her happily-ever-after. And those who love her believe her fairytale ending is still out there.
“She is a queen,” Marcus said. “And she deserves to be treated like one.”
