For more than three years, Zeus has been waiting at the Spartanburg Humane Society for his forever family.
The sweet pittie hasn’t had much luck finding adopters, but in the meantime, he’s found comfort in something most people would throw away: empty milk cartons.
“Most dogs love squeaky toys,” said volunteer Kaki Taylor. “But his thing is milk cartons.”

While others might see trash, Zeus sees treasure. He happily bats the cartons around his kennel, finding joy in their crinkly sound and lightweight bounce.
Taylor, so touched by his quirky obsession, now saves every carton she can.
“I’ve started drinking more milk lately just so I have extra milk cartons to bring to the shelter,” she said.

Zeus has become a favorite among staff and volunteers. They love taking him for windows-down car rides and treating him to pup cups from Starbucks — simple pleasures that brighten his long shelter stay. Still, they all know what he needs most is a home of his own.
Though Zeus is affectionate once he warms up, he can be shy when meeting new people. That nervous first impression has likely kept him overlooked. But those who take the time to earn his trust quickly discover he’s a gentle, loving companion.

“He's such a sweet boy, just scared of new people,” Taylor said. “He knows something good is coming his way.”

Zeus would thrive as the only pet in a household, especially with an active adult or older teen who can share adventures — and plenty of milk cartons.
After years of shelter life, it’s clear Zeus deserves his chance. “He needs a life outside the shelter,” Taylor said. “He's lived in a kennel long enough.”
