Shelter Dog Dresses Up For Adoption Day — But No One Comes

Hendrix, a lovable Staffordshire terrier mix, had been waiting nearly a year at the Kentucky Humane Society for a forever family.

So when someone submitted an adoption application and scheduled a meet-and-greet, shelter staff — and Hendrix — were filled with hope.

On Tuesday, Hendrix was groomed and ready, all dressed up in his best harness for the big moment at the Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center.

He wore his biggest smile as he waited for the family he thought would change his life.

But they never came.

“We waited over 30 minutes,” Megan Decker, media manager at the Kentucky Humane Society, told The Dodo. “No call. No message. Nothing. Hendrix sat there smiling, full of excitement, and they just didn’t show up. It broke our hearts.”

Hendrix came to the shelter last April from an overcrowded rural shelter. Since then, he’s brought joy to everyone he meets with his goofy charm and unique personality.

“He’s like a little pig-dog hybrid — always snorting with his short nose,” Decker said. “He snores loudly and keeps everyone entertained. There’s never a dull moment with him around.”

Playful and affectionate, Hendrix loves romping around outdoors before settling in for belly rubs and cuddles. He’s been gentle with young kids and lives to be around people — just not cats.

“He’s incredibly sweet and affectionate,” Decker added. “He flops over for belly rubs and snorts in contentment when he gets attention.”

That’s why being stood up was especially painful — not just for Hendrix, but for the staff who adore him.

“Watching him sit there with such excitement, only to be left waiting, was truly heartbreaking,” the shelter shared on Facebook. “He deserves so much more.”

Now, Hendrix is still waiting for the right family — one that sees his charm, hears his silly snorts, and never lets him down.

If you think you could be Hendrix’s perfect match, you can apply to adopt him, or learn more about his story here.
