When Eliza arrived at City of San Bernardino Animal Services a few weeks ago, she didn’t know what to make of her new surroundings. While the staff works hard to keep her safe and comfortable, Eliza clearly dreams of something else — a warm couch, a backyard to play in, and a family to call her own.
Being cooped up in a kennel isn’t her idea of fun, and she’s found a way to make her feelings known.
Animal photographer Alice Chow, who regularly visits the shelter to help showcase adoptable dogs, was instantly drawn to Eliza.
“Eliza couldn’t stop wagging her tail and whining to get my attention,” Chow told The Dodo. “She made sure I saw her. She wanted so much love from me. The only clear photos I was able to get were of her sticking her head through the broken kennel gates so she could get closer to me.”
It seemed Eliza had been trying to squeeze her way out of the kennel — not to escape, but simply to reach the people passing by. With her nose poking through the bent bars, her desperate attempts for affection touched Chow’s heart.
Wanting to give Eliza a better chance at finding her forever home, Chow shared the photos with her friend Lois Chisholm, who posted about her on Facebook.
“[She has a] very puppyish, playful spirit,” Chisholm wrote, along with all of Eliza’s adoption details.
Now, all they can do is hope the right family sees her sweet face and decides to bring her home.
If you’re interested in meeting Eliza (animal ID: #A554362), please call the shelter at (909) 384-1304. Rescue organizations can also reach out by emailing sbrescue@sbcity.org. You can find more information about her here.
With a little luck, Eliza won’t be pressing her nose through kennel bars for much longer — she’ll be showering her new family with the love she’s been waiting to give.
