Shelter Dog Can’t Stop Hugging The Woman Who Gave Him A Second Chance

In May, an American bulldog mix named Mr. Snuffulufugus — or Snuffy for short — was waiting at Copperas Cove Animal Control, unsure of what his future might hold. The small Texas shelter had limited resources, so rescuers searched for a place where Snuffy could truly thrive.

That place turned out to be Pit Squad Rescue in Minnesota, a group dedicated to giving bully breeds the second chances they deserve.

“The team down there contacted us saying that they looked us up and would like him to come here!” Pit Squad director Jamie Addison told The Dodo. “They pulled him from being adoptable, and we started prepping.”

Stephanie Easley

When volunteer Stephanie Easley heard Snuffy was heading to Minnesota, she immediately felt it was meant to be.

“The second he was posted as needing a foster, I literally begged,” Easley said. “Out of all the rescues in all the states, he ended up coming to the one I had just started volunteering with.”

Snuffy arrived safely in her care — and quickly made it clear just how grateful he was. From day one, he clung to Easley, showering her with hugs and affection.

Not long after, though, a challenge emerged. Snuffy tested positive for heartworm, and his foster mom learned the difficult journey ahead would require strict kennel rest and expensive treatment. On top of that, vets discovered an enlarged heart and lung damage.

But Pit Squad refused to give up on him — and neither did Easley.

With treatment underway, Easley was by Snuffy’s side through every step, reassuring him with snuggles and steady love.

Against the odds, Snuffy pulled through without complications.

As he recovered, the community rallied around him, sending toys, treats, and encouragement. Snuffy soaked it all up, always eager to give hugs in return.

“Snuffy is still extremely affectionate and loving,” Easley said. “Human love is his number one desire.”

Now, Snuffy is officially available for adoption. He’ll need a very special family — one without other pets, who can continue his training with patience, kindness, and firm boundaries.

“He is quirky and reactive, so it will take the right match,” Easley explained. “But he deserves that chance.”

For now, Easley is savoring every moment with her foster pup, grateful for the lessons he’s taught her.

“He’s changed my life in so many ways,” she said. “Snuffy has shown me that some challenges aren’t simple to solve — but they’re always worth it.”
