The late-summer sun was beating down on Los Angeles when a call for help came in to rescuer Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29.
A Good Samaritan had spotted a shaggy dog tied up outside an abandoned warehouse with no shelter, no water, and no way to escape the brutal heat.
“[She was] tied in a business area and left behind in the hot sun …” Hall later shared on Facebook. At the time, Hall was already on the road transporting another dog, nearly an hour away.
Looking at the photo of the matted pup tethered to a staircase, she knew every passing minute put the dog in greater danger.
She needed help — fast.
Hall reached out to her network of friends, and one immediately answered the call.
“Thank God for Mary Nakiso, my amazing friend,” Hall wrote. “She had just gotten off work and raced over there.”
Mary arrived at the row of warehouses and began searching, but the dog wasn’t where she was supposed to be. Then, just as she was losing hope, she spotted the staircase from the picture.
“At first, she didn’t see the pup,” Hall recalled. “I was on the phone with her when suddenly she screamed, ‘I found her!’”
The little dog had been moved. Instead of being left by the stairs, someone had tied her tightly to a nearby fence.
She was still trapped under the scorching sun, still without water — and by then, she was trembling.
Mary hurried to free her, and in that moment, the frightened pup, later named Brinley, seemed to understand that help had finally come.
“She knew [Mary] was there to help her,” Hall said. “I’m sure all day she was hoping someone was coming.”
Not long after, Hall arrived and rushed Brinley to Camino Pet Hospital, where the exhausted pup received a full checkup, hydration, and a much-needed grooming session.
In just over a week, Brinley’s transformation has been remarkable. She is now safe in a foster home, where she spends her days curled up in a soft bed, slowly learning to trust, and soaking up gentle affection.
“She is still a little shut-down,” Hall shared, “but with an amazing foster making her feel like a princess, she finally knows what love feels like.”
After surviving such neglect, Brinley is finally getting the life she deserves — one filled with care, comfort, and kindness.
