When Luna was surrendered to San Antonio Animal Care Services, everything she knew was suddenly gone — except for one comforting thing: her beloved teddy bear.
In the midst of the unfamiliar sights and sounds of the shelter, Luna clung tightly to her stuffed companion. She carried it with her everywhere, finding solace in its presence during such a confusing and stressful time.
“Familiarity is comforting for everyone in times of stress, and this is no doubt the reason why Luna is so attached to her bear,” said Lisa Norwood, the shelter’s public relations manager. “The bear came from home, smells like home, and reminds her of what she used to have.”
Though understandably nervous, Luna still let her personality shine through. Shelter staff described her as a playful, affectionate pup who hadn’t lost her spark — even if she occasionally became overwhelmed by her new environment.
“She’s still full of puppy energy,” Norwood said. “But she was definitely stressed by all the change.”
Determined to give Luna the fresh start she deserved, the shelter teamed up with Vermont English Bulldog Rescue, where Luna and her teddy bear were transferred to continue the search for a forever family.
Now in a calmer, more focused setting, Luna has a better chance at finding the patient, loving home she’s been waiting for.
“Luna needs a family that will embrace her joyful spirit and give her the stability she craves,” Norwood said. “She deserves a lifelong home.”
Luna’s story is a powerful reminder of how animals can hold onto the smallest threads of comfort when their world is turned upside down — and how, with a little love and compassion, we can help them start over.
