A rescue boat whisks John and Cathy Cservek, and their dogs Lacy and Iggy, to safer grounds.
Volunteers assisted in the efforts to help bring their pets to dry ground.
Carrying all that they could grab, devastated families flee their homes in the wake of the tragedy.
This dog is captured experiencing the moment of going from danger to safety. Those eyes say it all.
Soaked to the bone — they are grateful that they at least have each other.

Lesson learned from Katrina, the house pets are allowed in the shelters. Still many fur babies were displaced and never reunited with their owners. Microchipped animals have a good chance of being reunited with their people.

My pets are part of my family’s lives. How could you not make every attempt to save them. Bless these pups and their owners and all the lost and abandoned animals.
