On the streets of New Jersey, a young pup named Fiddler had nowhere to turn. Hungry and alone, he somehow climbed onto the roof of a suburban home — as if placing himself high enough might finally help someone notice him.
From the shingles, Fiddler paced nervously, waiting for a kind soul to stop. Eventually, a neighbor spotted the strange sight, snapped a photo, and shared it on Facebook.
That single post changed everything.
When rescuers from Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge saw the picture, they rushed to the scene. Moving slowly and speaking softly, they coaxed the frightened pup down from his perch.
“Despite his fragile state, he was full of life and immediately looking to play and be loved,” the rescue shared.
Fiddler was less than a year old, his ribs showing beneath a matted coat. He was weak, but his spirit was unbroken.
The team gave him medical care, untangled his fur, and carefully built up his weight with proper meals. Within days, the glow returned to his eyes.
“Fiddler is doing so well,” the rescue reported. “He has gained weight, looks healthier and is full of playful energy.”
Now, Fiddler is almost unrecognizable — a goofy, tall, lanky pup with endless charm. He adores other dogs, loves soaking up attention, and bounces through life with contagious joy.
All he needs now is a forever home. His rescuers hope to find an active, patient family who will keep up with his grooming, help guide him through training, and maybe even offer him a canine sibling to play with.
“After everything he has been through, he deserves a life of happiness, love and comfort,” the rescue said. “Fiddler has a bright spirit, and we are honored to find him the perfect match.”
