On a bitterly cold night in Sealy, Texas, as temperatures plunged below freezing, three tiny puppies were abandoned outside an apartment complex, left to fend for themselves in the dangerous cold.
Texas has been facing an unusually harsh winter, and for these vulnerable pups, survival seemed uncertain. Clinging to one another for warmth, they sought shelter beneath a bench — with only each other for comfort.
Fortunately, a kind-hearted passerby spotted the shivering pups and quickly posted about them in a local Facebook group. Although he couldn’t take them home himself, he moved them into an empty storage unit at the complex, tucked them under some blankets, and made sure they were safe for the night.
The next morning, a woman who saw the Facebook post knew she had to act. She alerted Sauver Des Chiens German Shepherd Rescue (SDC) — and without hesitation, she drove to the apartment complex, gently gathered the puppies, and brought them home to warmth and safety.
“Her children quickly fell in love with the puppies and made it their mission to take care of them,” said Kylie Jackson, a board member and social media manager at SDC.
Despite their ordeal, the 7-week-old puppies were in fairly good health, battling only a bad case of fleas. After a soothing flea bath, the little trio immediately started feeling better — and even started showing their playful sides.
The rescuer’s children named the pups Artemis, Hephaestus, and the “goofy little runt,” Squirt. They showered them with love and care until SDC was able to place them in a more permanent foster home.
Thanks to the many people who refused to turn away, the puppies are now thriving under the care of their foster mom, Taite.
“They’re settling into their foster home, staying warm, and getting lots of rest and playtime,” SDC shared on Facebook.
Soon, once they’re fully vaccinated and old enough, the three pups will be available for adoption — and judging by their sweet and lively personalities, they’ll make wonderful additions to any family.
“They love to play and quickly became obsessed with their favorite toy, a stuffed octopus,” Jackson said.
After being left out in the freezing cold, these resilient puppies are finally getting the chance they deserve: a future filled with warmth, love, and a place to call home.
