Known for his sharp nose, brave heart, and unwavering dedication, Buddy had been more than just a working dog — he was family.
So when the time came for his retirement, his fellow officers knew he deserved a sendoff as special as he was.
Buddy’s handler, Officer D. Magness, shared that when he’s off-duty, Buddy’s favorite pastime is chasing balls. That little detail inspired the perfect idea: his retirement celebration would include all the balls he could dream of.
The party began with one final evidence detection test — a nod to Buddy’s impressive career — but what came next was pure joy.
Suddenly, Buddy was showered with a cascade of tennis balls, and the once-serious working dog transformed into a gleeful pup, thrilled by the surprise.
It was the perfect tribute to a dog who had given his all.
“Buddy, your watch is complete,” Magness’ daughter wrote on TikTok alongside a video of the moment. “May retirement bring soft beds, long naps, and endless belly rubs.”
