As the state of Texas has continued to brace itself for the continued effects of Hurricane Harvey, there are some who find themselves wondering why animal owners are not doing right by their pets during this time of emergency. This photo was taken this past Saturday and it shows a dog who was tied to a pole. The poor animal was chained up and left stranded during one of the worst natural disasters of recent memory.
Just imagine being chained to a telephone pole and being forced to watch flood waters rise around you. The photographer who is responsible for taking the photo also took the time to release the animal from its horrific prison. Flash flood warnings are still being issued in various areas of the state and Texas residents are being urged to watch over their pets.
Pets are a part of the family and they deserve to be treated as such. There is no reason to leave livestock or pets tied up in the elements and the dog above is not the only one who has been found abandoned. Police officers in these regions are letting citizens know that they will most certainly be held accountable for any actions that contribute to the death of their pets.
Texas has passed laws against this type of behavior and these rules are going to be strictly enforced. Kudos to law enforcement for laying the law down early on and letting people that any sort of animal endangering behavior is not going to be tolerated under any circumstances. Hurricane Harvey has many Texans wondering what is next.
It will take some time and effort to clean up the after effects of this storm and the storm is also expected to continue attacking the Lone Star State well into next week. The most destructive aspects of the storm are believed to be on the horizon and that is why animal owners need to be fully aware of the consequences of their actions now.
Otherwise, they could make a mistake that proves fatal to their pet and also causes them to be placed in jail in the process. Don’t let yourself become the sort of inconsiderate soul that leaves an animal tied up and alone during a storm of this magnitude. Disaster declarations have been made for at least 50 counties and these storm surges are not expected to stop anytime soon. Please share this story to raise necessary awareness.
If you see any pets left behind, please contact local animal service.

This is sickening and heartbreaking, What kind of person just leaves their dog to die like that, or any animal? I hope these dogs that people are seeing tied out like that are being rescued. Me, on the other hand, would never leave my pets behind, either they come with me or I go down with them. They’re family to me and I couldn’t just abandon them and leave them to suffer a horrible fate, especially alone. So it disgusts me that, not only were these animals left to die, but, tied up with NO chance of escape. Poor babies, I hope any animal who is found suffering during this gets rescued. My heart goes out to them and to all the humans, minus the ones leaving their pets to die. sorry, hard to have sympathy for any one who harms an animal in any way and seeing these faces of these babies left to die just kills me.

Let’s tie their humans to trees. How could you leave your dog like that? I can only assume they thought they couldn’t take the dog into a people shelter & they wouldn’t run off & get rescued…BUT what if the water gets too high & they drown??? Oh Lord just bless those animals crazy owners! And I pray everyone survives!

With Hurricane Harvey may be the humans “lost all their marbles”. There are so many stories of people who abandon their doggies by either tied up to a tree or pole.
