Who would imagine that one of the most majestic animals on Earth could be nearly invisible?
Wildlife photographer Saurabh Desai recently shared a photo from India’s remote Spiti Valley that has the internet completely stumped.
At first glance, it looks like an ordinary mountain landscape — a rugged slope dusted with snow. But somewhere in that photo lurks a snow leopard, perfectly camouflaged in its natural habitat.
Can you find it?

If not, you’re not alone. Even locals, who call the snow leopard “Shan,” say they often can’t see one even when it’s right in front of them.
“I wanted to capture this animal the way people describe it,” Desai told The Dodo. “They say they don’t see the ‘Shan’ — but the ‘Shan’ always sees them.”
Here's a hint for those still stumped:

That’s the secret to the photo’s brilliance: while you’re busy searching, the snow leopard is already watching you all along.

Desai spent three years tracking these elusive big cats through some of the harshest terrain on the planet before finally capturing this unforgettable shot.
“When I found it up close, I was speechless,” he said.
Not every snow leopard Desai photographs is this hard to spot — but their ghostlike camouflage and ability to move silently across cliffs make every sighting feel like a miracle.

Thanks to Desai’s patience and artistry, the world gets to witness what few people ever do: a rare glimpse of nature’s most mysterious predator, hiding in plain sight.
