    No. Bear coat is a coat type for shar pei. It used to be considered undesirable for show quality. May still be. The cross between basset and shar pei is called a walrus.

    They do have many health issues but the personality issue has improved greatly over the years. They are sometimes stand offish, stubborn and very protective of their person and belongings. Have owned shar pei for over 20 years and they are a wonderful breed!

    Please no don’t make this breed a fad. They usually have a ton of health problems and require dedicated owners. People will go out and impulse buy these guys to have a ” cute bear type dog” only to be heart broken with vet bills or dumping them at the shelter with behaviour problems. You know puppy mills and back yard breeders are just waiting for the next dog craze to make a quick buck.
