At first, neighbors could hardly believe their eyes. From the ground, it looked like something small was moving high up in a towering 60-foot tree.
But after watching closely, they realized it wasn’t their imagination — a little life was clinging to the branches above.
It was Pixie, a curious kitten who had been exploring outdoors for the very first time. In true adventurous spirit, she had scrambled up the tree but quickly realized she had no idea how to climb back down.
Instead of retreating, Pixie made things worse by climbing higher and higher until she was completely stuck.
Worried neighbors called the RSPCA and the fire department, hoping someone could help. But even after food was placed on a branch overnight, Pixie refused to move.
“After about 72 hours, it was clear she wasn’t coming down on her own,” said Lee Ferrans, an RSPCA animal rescue officer. “The next step was finding a local tree surgeon.”
That’s when Mad About Trees, a local tree care company, stepped in. Using their professional climbing gear, they ascended to Pixie’s precarious perch and carefully scooped her into a net before carrying her safely back to the ground.
The reunion with her owner was filled with relief and joy.
“She’s certainly used up one of her nine lives,” Ferrans said. “Hopefully this puts her off climbing such tall trees in the future.”
From nearly invisible in the treetops to safely back in loving arms, Pixie’s adventure proved just how much a caring community — and a little teamwork — can accomplish.
