Neglected Dogs Hiding in Bushes Finally Rescued — And Can’t Stop Smiling

For three small, matted dogs abandoned in Los Angeles County, safety meant sticking together. They didn’t know the neighborhood or why they’d been left behind, but they knew one thing: they had each other. So, they nestled under thick bushes, scared and confused, waiting for something — or someone — to change their fate.

That moment came when a passerby noticed a fluffy white face peeking out from the underbrush. As she looked closer, two more little dogs emerged. The sight broke her heart.

She approached gently, hoping to help. Two of the pups bolted in fear. The third, later named Lemondrop, tried to run but couldn’t. One of her legs appeared injured. Without hesitation, the woman scooped Lemondrop into her arms and rushed home to call for help.

She reached out to Logan’s Legacy 29, and founder Suzette Hall quickly sprang into action. With the help of longtime volunteer Mary Nakiso, the team set out to rescue the other two frightened pups.

“They were hiding in the bushes,” Hall later wrote. “Then they crawled under Mary’s car.”

With a soft crate in hand, Hall quietly moved in. She managed to gently guide one pup — a shy little girl they’d later name Tudy Bloom — into the crate. But the third dog, a small boy later called Kermit, panicked and fled.

Kermit dashed into a neighbor’s fenced yard. The gate was locked, but Hall called out, hoping someone was home.

“The kind neighbor came out and let me in,” she wrote. “I found Kermit, terrified, with blood dripping from his mouth. But finally, he was safe in my arms.”

All three dogs, now reunited, were brought straight to a trusted veterinary clinic. As they lay curled together in the car, Hall could hear the sound of relief: soft, steady snoring.

“They knew they were safe,” she said.

At the clinic, each pup received gentle baths and medical evaluations. Years of neglect were carefully shaved away — along with their tangled fur — revealing sweet, grateful faces underneath. Tudy Bloom, once hidden beneath a dense coat of mats, transformed into a glowing, joyful pup.

“This sweet girl was filthy and matted,” Hall shared. “But once her past was shaved away, all she had left was smiles.”

Lemondrop’s injured leg, tragically, was found to be beyond repair due to a shattered kneecap. Veterinarians decided to amputate — and she bounced back with inspiring resilience.

Kermit, too, had suffered. He’d lost his front teeth during his time on the streets, but he received medication and began healing quickly.

With their wounds tended and their hearts beginning to heal, all three dogs moved into loving foster homes. They’re now safe, warm, and learning what it means to be cared for.

Though they still await forever families, Lemondrop, Tudy Bloom, and Kermit are thriving — and their rescuers couldn’t be prouder.

“It’s another little miracle,” Hall said.
