When Jonathan discovered a mouse had moved into one of the electrical boxes at his workplace, he figured it was time to evict her.
The little tenant had built herself a cozy nest among the wires, but Jonathan wasn’t exactly thrilled about having a rodent roommate.
He opened the box, ready to send her on her way — but the moment he looked inside, everything changed.
“It’s a lot harder when there’s a family involved,” Jonathan shared on TikTok.
Inside the nest, he found tiny pink babies, their mother watching protectively nearby. The mouse hadn’t chosen the box at random — she was a mom doing everything she could to keep her newborns safe.
Instantly, Jonathan’s heart softened. Instead of chasing her out, he named her Reba (after the song “I’m a Survivor”) and decided to let her stay.
What began as a simple pest problem quickly turned into an internet sensation. Commenters fell in love with Reba and her little family, cheering Jonathan on as he transformed from reluctant landlord to devoted caretaker.
“I want proof of life every hour on the hour,” one follower joked.
Jonathan started bringing Reba snacks of peanut butter and seeds, calling it her “welcome to the neighborhood” gift. Though she’s not always home when he checks on her, he’s spotted her babies growing stronger day by day.
“I’m invested at this point,” one commenter admitted. “Checking daily for updates.”
Jonathan is just as invested now. He’s even planning to build Reba and her pups a tiny ‘mouse condo’ and set up a trail camera to monitor their little family safely.
“I hope this makes everybody’s day like it did mine,” he wrote.
What began as a routine eviction turned into an unexpected friendship — and a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a closer look to find a little magic in the most unlikely places.
