The horrific scene unfolded on February 12, when a witness spotted the disturbing sight along West Kennedy Boulevard around 9 p.m. The concerned bystander immediately called 911, reporting that a dog was being dragged behind a moving truck.
By the time Tampa police officers arrived, the dog had already suffered severe trauma.

Surveillance Footage Reveals the Shocking Truth
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that revealed even more horrifying details.
- Davis had driven nearly a mile with the dog tied to the truck’s bumper.
- As he made a sharp turn into a bank parking lot, the force of the turn caused the leash to snap, finally freeing the injured dog.
- Instead of stopping to help, Davis parked, used the ATM, and drove away—leaving the dog behind in critical condition.
A Tragic Ending
Officers rushed the badly injured dog to an emergency veterinary facility, but despite their efforts, the trauma was too severe. The dog did not survive.

The next day, on February 13, police located Johnnie Davis at his home and took him into custody. He was booked into the Orient Road Jail on one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw condemned the cruelty, stating:
“The cruelty inflicted on this helpless animal is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. Our officers acted swiftly to ensure this criminal was identified and taken into custody. We will continue to seek justice for innocent lives and hold those responsible accountable.”
