Lonely Shelter Dog Tries To Squeeze Through Kennel Bars Just For a Little Love

Eliza hasn’t been at the City of San Bernardino Animal Services for long, but she’s already made it clear — shelter life just isn’t for her. She’s not interested in sitting behind bars waiting. What Eliza really wants is to run around with her future family, snuggle on the couch, and soak up all the love she’s been missing. And she’s not shy about showing it.

During one of her regular visits to the shelter, longtime animal photographer and advocate Alice Chow spotted Eliza — and instantly knew she was someone special.

“Eliza couldn’t stop wagging her tail and whining to get my attention,” Chow told The Dodo. “She made sure I saw her. She wanted so much love from me.”

In fact, Eliza was trying so hard to connect, she literally stuck her head through the bent bars of her kennel, just to get a little closer. Chow was only able to snap a few clear photos — most of them showing Eliza stretching through the broken gate, tail wagging, eyes hopeful.

It was obvious: Eliza wasn’t trying to escape out of mischief — she was trying to reach someone. Anyone. Someone who might take her home.

Deeply moved, Chow sent Eliza’s photos to her friend Lois Chisholm, who quickly shared them online in hopes of reaching a kind-hearted adopter.

“She has such a puppyish, playful spirit,” Chisholm wrote in her post.

Now, Eliza’s waiting — not just in her kennel, but in the hearts of everyone rooting for her — for the right person to see her, love her, and bring her home for good.
