Junk Removal Crew Lifts Hot Tub And Finds A Scaly Surprise

When you work in junk removal, you learn to expect a few surprises. But one Alabama specialist from Pop & Son’s Junk Removal recently got more than he bargained for after flipping over an old hot tub.

At first glance, it seemed like the usual clutter — scraps of wood, scattered debris, and even a little salamander.

But then he spotted something else, almost perfectly camouflaged against the cement: a massive gray ratsnake curled up beneath the tub.

“It startled me being that close,” the man admitted.

The snake had picked a fitting hideout. Gray ratsnakes are known to seek out dark, sheltered places such as wood piles, old sheds, and hollow trees.

While they’re completely nonvenomous and harmless to people, this one’s patio hideaway wasn’t the safest spot for him to stay.

Thinking quickly, the removal specialist grabbed a garden rake. With a steady hand, he gently scooped the snake up, carried him over to the fence line, and guided him into the wild woods beyond the yard.

“I used a garden rake and scooped him up and moved him over to the top of the fence,” he said. “From there, I directed him to the other side with the tip of the rake.”

Once back in the wilderness, the snake slithered off in search of a new, quieter place to settle — hopefully one without hot tubs scheduled for removal.
