When Lindsay, a Wisconsin resident, stepped into her garage one afternoon just to grab a drink, she didn’t expect to find anyone waiting for her — let alone someone this tiny and annoyed.
Right at her feet stood a baby robin, staring up at her with a face that could only be described as grumpy.
“[W]e have a fridge in our garage, so I was just going out to get a drink,” Lindsay told The Dodo. “I opened the door, and it was right there.”
The little bird looked like he had a lot to say — none of it very patient.
“[He] was looking at me like, ‘Hi, can you help me find my mom?’” Lindsay said in a TikTok video.
Startled but concerned, Lindsay quickly put her dog in his crate to keep the little visitor safe. Then she noticed the baby robin opening his mouth wide in the universal language of “Feed me!”
“He was hungry,” Lindsay said. “The first thing I noticed is that he really opened his mouth like, ‘Feed me.’”
Her husband — a big bird lover — joined her to help figure out how the poor chick had ended up in their garage. It didn’t take long to solve the mystery.
The day before, her husband had been working in the garage with the door open. The curious baby must have wandered inside, and when the door closed later, he’d been trapped overnight.
Determined to help, Lindsay carefully scooped up the little robin with gloves and carried him outside. She offered him some water and even considered digging up worms — but nature had already sent help.
Within minutes, the mother robin appeared, calling frantically from a nearby tree. She had clearly been searching for her lost baby all along.
“[The] parent must have been in a tree, listening for him,” Lindsay said.
To Lindsay’s amazement, the mom swooped down and fed her baby a worm right before her eyes. Then, satisfied that her little one was safe, she led him away through the yard.
“It was adorable,” Lindsay said, smiling.
And just like that, the grumpy little bird who’d spent hours pouting in the garage finally had something to sing about.
