Fluffy Stray Dog Slept On Train Tracks, Hoping Someone Would See Him

Rosario Ortiz has a keen eye for animals in need. As a dog lover and volunteer rescuer, she’s used to spotting pups in dangerous situations around her Los Angeles neighborhood. But one recent encounter touched her heart more deeply than most.

Curled up beside a set of train tracks, a small, off-white Pomeranian had made his “home” under a storage container. With no safe place to go, the little dog had chosen one of the most dangerous spots imaginable.

“Thank goodness Rosario noticed him under the container, so small and curled up,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, wrote on Facebook.

Knowing he needed help right away, Ortiz called Hall for backup. An hour later, when Hall arrived, the pup was still in the very same spot — asleep under the container, unaware of how close he was to danger.

Hall set a humane trap filled with warm, tempting food and waited. Slowly, the hungry little dog crept out from under the storage container and began sniffing his way toward the trap. But just as he was about to step inside, a passerby unintentionally startled him.

“He went running down the tracks,” Hall recalled. “So dangerous, a fluffy boy running like that … we held our breath.”

Ortiz and Hall sprang into action. They jumped into their cars and followed him, carefully steering him away from the tracks.

Eventually, they managed to guide him into a fenced-in area, using baby gates to block off his escape. Step by step, they moved closer until Ortiz could finally scoop him safely into her arms.

They named him Marshmallow — a perfect fit for his soft, fluffy coat. And the moment he realized he was safe, the relief washed over him.

“The best part was when he knew he was safe,” Hall wrote. “He could hardly keep his eyes open. He just laid down all the way in the back of the trap, finally able to rest.”

At Camino Pet Hospital, Marshmallow received a much-needed bath and a full checkup. Soon after, he was placed with a loving foster family, where his personality began to shine.

No longer a frightened stray, Marshmallow has blossomed into the sweetest cuddle bug. Hall says he’s thriving and soaking up every ounce of love and comfort he can get.

“Marshmallow is the biggest cuddle bug ever,” Hall said. “He is beyond happy to be saved. He just cuddles into your arms.”

Now, this once-lonely pup is waiting for his forever home — a safe place where he’ll never have to sleep on train tracks again.
