Family Learns Their House Has Been Home to Dozens of Hidden Snakes

An Australian family recently got a startling surprise — their home hasn’t been as empty as they thought. For quite some time, they’d apparently been sharing it with a lot of snakes.

They had suspected a snake or two might be hiding somewhere in the house (it is Australia, after all), so they called Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 to check their roof space for signs.

The answer? Oh, there were signs.

“Well, to be completely honest, there has been a couple … at least!” the team wrote.

Inside the roof, the inspector discovered piles of evidence: snake skins. Dozens of them.

He pulled over 30 shed skins out of the roof — and estimated at least 20 more were still tucked away up there.

It’s unclear whether any snakes were still present during the inspection, but one thing was obvious: the roof had been a comfortable hangout spot for a long time.

The adults’ reactions weren’t recorded, but according to the snake catchers, the kids were thrilled.

And while the idea of uninvited reptile roommates might give some people chills, there is a silver lining.

Snakes only shed because they’re growing — and they grow because they’ve been eating well. In this case, that likely means they’ve been helping themselves to the home’s rodent population.

As Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 put it:

“Snakes are great to have in your roof as they eat all the rodents. Who doesn’t love free pest control!”
