Last month, a family in Canada looked out onto their balcony and discovered an unexpected houseguest — a raccoon curled up fast asleep, using their outdoor space as his makeshift bedroom.
It all started when the family’s cat began sniffing at the open window, clearly intrigued by something outside. Curious, Reddit user CT-96’s partner peeked out — and burst out laughing.
“[Our cat] could smell him through the open window, which alerted my partner, who looked out the window and saw him lying there,” CT-96 told The Dodo.
There, stretched out comfortably on the balcony floor, was a raccoon who looked like he’d just finished a long night of adventures.

Instead of shooing him away, the couple decided to let him rest. “We both thought it was adorable,” CT-96 said.

The raccoon snoozed peacefully through the day, completely at ease in his borrowed spot. When he finally woke up, he wandered off quietly — but the next afternoon, he returned, ready for another nap.
The couple affectionately named him Chubs.

Wanting to make him more comfortable, CT-96 even set out a little pillow and a bowl of water. Chubs seemed to appreciate the hospitality — this balcony had clearly become his favorite crash pad.

After a couple of days of peaceful naps, Chubs moved on, perhaps to find another cozy resting spot in the neighborhood.

Still, his brief stay left a lasting impression.
“We already liked raccoons and thought they were cute,” CT-96 said, “but we definitely like them more after this.”
