Raina was a stray dog who had recently given birth to a litter of 11 puppies. But when the heavy rains came, she dug a hole to protect her babies. The whimpering and crying of the puppies caught the attention of some neighbors.

The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) was called for help. They performed a perilous rescue, as they jumped into the muddy hole, and rescued the scared, shivering and mud-covered puppies one by one.
The rescue operation garnered a lot of attention, and a lot of families filled in applications for adoptions. Finally, the shelter chose the adoptive parents, and called them in to accept their puppies by lottery.
