Twinkle’s story began in June, when she was found alone on the streets of Miami—emaciated, suffering from decaying teeth, and desperate for care. True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission took her in, and thanks to their team, Twinkle began to heal.
“She spent a couple weeks recovering at the vet's office after surgery and slowly started putting on weight,” said Lisa Letson, the rescue’s president and founder.
“She blossomed into the sweetest little thing. We were thrilled when a lovely family adopted her in early September.”
But right around Christmas, that joy took a painful turn.
After four months, Twinkle’s adoptive family contacted the rescue to return her. The reason? She cried through the night because she wanted to sleep in bed with her humans.
The family had other senior Chihuahuas, and none were allowed in the bed — so they decided Twinkle wasn’t the right fit.
“Twinkle was beyond devastated and confused,” said Madison Mulvihill, the rescue’s social media coordinator. “She sat in the corner of the dog room on a little bed, shaking. When she looked at us, it was with such pain and confusion — like she didn’t understand why she was back.”
She was handed back over the fence by her former owners. Even as they walked away, Twinkle kept looking after them, hoping they’d change their minds.
All she ever wanted was to feel close to her family.
Despite the heartbreak, the rescue never stopped believing in Twinkle. Weighing just 3.5 pounds, this tiny dog has a huge personality.
She’s joyful, loves attention, and even hops through the grass like a bunny. She’s leash-trained, gets along with other dogs, and will gently paw at your hand for affection.
Determined to find her the loving home she deserved, the rescue posted her story on TikTok. It went viral. Messages poured in. People around the world were moved by Twinkle’s simple wish to cuddle through the night.
And soon enough, the right family came along.
“Her new home includes six other dogs and a giant king-size bed where she’s more than welcome to snuggle every night,” Mulvihill said. “She’ll finally know what it means to be truly loved.”
Twinkle’s story is a reminder that sometimes, all a dog wants is a little space in your bed — and a lot of space in your heart.
