Two years ago, Anna’s life began in heartbreak. She was discovered in a dumpster with her mom and brother, rescued just in time by Strong Paws Rescue. While her fawn-colored family members quickly found homes, Anna — a sleek, all-black pit bull — is still waiting for hers.
“Because of her breed and color, she’s only had one application, even though she’s an amazing dog,” Chelsea Dom of Strong Paws Rescue told The Dodo.
Since then, Anna has been shuffled from foster home to foster home — eight different ones so far. Each goodbye chips away at her heart a little more.
“Her last two moves were especially hard,” Dom explained. “She actually tried to run back inside both foster homes because she knew she was about to leave again. She looks at the transporter with such sadness every time. Last time, she buried her muzzle into the volunteer’s arm, like she was asking for comfort.”
Black shelter dogs often struggle to find homes, and Anna has felt that reality deeply. At first, she can be cautious around new people. But once she realizes she’s safe, her personality shines.
“Once she opens up to you, she is a complete wiggle butt,” said Meagan Kobielski, Strong Paws’ executive director and founder.
Anna loves playing with friendly dogs but isn’t suited for a home with cats. She’d thrive best in a calm, female-only household without young kids — a place where she can finally settle and know she’ll never have to move again.
“We just want her to have a permanent home, where she can feel safe, settled and loved for good,” Dom said.
After everything Anna’s been through, she still holds onto hope that her forever family is out there — someone who will see past her color and breed and love her for the sweet soul she truly is.
