Sparky has a unique way of showing his distaste for photo ops: he flops like a pile of Jell-O.
Whenever his dad, Kennedy Simmons, tries to take a picture, the little rescue dog goes totally limp — a dramatic move that’s half tantrum, half comedy, and fully effective.
“When he’s done being cute on camera, he just collapses,” Simmons told The Dodo. “He flops down like a wet noodle and glares at me like, ‘Seriously, again?’”
Simmons, a veterinary assistant known for adopting special needs dogs, met Sparky when the young Italian greyhound was surrendered to his clinic.
After breaking his leg and requiring surgery, Sparky’s former family, though loving, worried they couldn’t give him the carefree puppyhood he deserved.
That’s when Simmons stepped in — and Sparky’s zest for life took off.
“He’s never let missing a leg slow him down,” Simmons said. “From the moment he came home, he’s been into everything. If you can’t see him, he’s probably stealing food off the table or dragging a sock across the house.”
Despite weighing just 11 pounds, Sparky has the confidence of a much larger dog. He plays equally hard with both tiny pups and massive ones, tugging on tails and ears, making mischief wherever he goes. Somehow, all the dogs he meets adore him.
“He’s never once been told ‘no’ by another dog,” Simmons laughed. “He’s got this goofy charm that no one can resist.”
The only thing Sparky doesn’t seem to love? Sitting still for pictures. Simmons’ phone is full of blurry shots and dramatic flops that tell the story better than any posed portrait ever could.
Still, Simmons wouldn’t trade his stubborn, spark-filled pup for the world.
“Out of all the special needs dogs I’ve had, Sparky is something else,” Simmons said. “He lights up the room. There’s a real spark in him — and it’s contagious.”
