The Brazilian band Caffé Pitta is no stranger to enthusiastic crowds in their hometown of Alagoinhas — but during one recent show, it was an unexpected guest who stole the spotlight.
Drummer Nandinho Oliveira was mid-performance when a familiar figure suddenly appeared onstage: a friendly black dog he’d met just days earlier outside a different venue.
The first time they crossed paths, Oliveira was setting up for a show when the dog wandered over. They shared a playful moment and then went their separate ways — but clearly, the dog hadn’t forgotten him.
During this new performance, the pup trotted confidently onstage and made a beeline for his favorite drummer. The audience held its breath — and then melted as Oliveira paused, recognized the dog, and lovingly reached out to him.
“I’m a dog lover,” Oliveira said. “As soon as I saw him, I remembered our moment from before. I held out my hand, called him over, and gave him a drumstick to play with. He looked so happy — the crowd applauded and laughed. It felt like a planned moment, but it was all spontaneous and full of heart.”
After the concert, the two stuck together as the band packed up. Oliveira believes the dog is a stray and has made it his mission to track him down and give him a proper home.
“I think I know where he lives, and I want to adopt him,” Oliveira said. “Honestly, I’m the one who’s grateful.”
