Injured Chihuahua Puppy Rescued From Dumpster On The Mend

A tiny 2-pound Chihuahua puppy who was cruelly tossed away like a piece of garbage is on the mend thanks to a college employee in Santa Rosa, California. “This Chihuahua puppy girl was found by one of our employees, thrown away in a dumpster on the Santa Rosa campus, early in the morning of Tuesday, Oct 27th,” Santa Rosa Junior College shared on Facebook. “The puppy’s arms were both broken recently, possibly prior to being thrown away. However, the dog is also slight enough that the act of throwing the dog away into a dumpster could have caused the fractures.”

Dr. Dan Famini at Sonoma County Animal Services is one of her caregivers and he recently visited with the puppy and provided an update on her with the Junior College’s Facebook page:

“Her new name is “Darla”, she weighs 2 lbs. exactly, he estimates she is about 14 weeks old, and she is scheduled for surgery to repair her fractured legs, soon. He rechecked Darla, chang[ed] her splints and took these photos … There is also one picture of Dr. Famini holding the little Darla, for size comparison.”

She’s so small and adorable in her pink casts with hearts!

Darla will be scheduled for surgery to repair her fractured legs shortly. Currently, she is in a foster home with one of the shelter’s staff and she will be adoptable once she has surgery and her legs get better.

As there has been no information about who abandoned and injured her so far, the Sonoma County Animal Services is hoping someone from the public will come forward with information. If anyone has information on the case, or would like to adopt Darla, they can call Sonoma County Animal Services at (707) 565-7100.

Darla’s rescuers are optimistic about her future given that she is young and now in safe hands. “Even though Darla had a rough start, we think she is going to have a great going forward.”

Share Darla’s story with your friends and family!

  1. ” Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (St Mathew 25:40) The people who do this to the little animals have a giant milstone waiting to be tied to their neck to drag them to the bottom of the abyss

  2. Why do someone think that this is a good way to get rid of these animals you need to be throw in the dumpster your self and taste your own medicine this was a horrible thing that you did so wrong these animals look for us for lots of love they are so darn loyal to everyone they don’t ask for much

  3. It’s awful that people do such cruel things. We adopted a chihuahua 7 years ago that was also found in a dumpster with a broken leg. He is spoiled rotten now and we love him with all our hearts. I hope this baby lives happily ever after as well.
