At a recent adoption event, Julia Wood noticed a black-and-white cat pressing against the glass of her kennel, purring and rolling around as if begging for affection.
Curious, Wood stepped closer — and learned the heartbreaking reason the sweet cat was there.
The note on her kennel revealed her name: Ellie. She’d already been adopted once, but her new family had returned her.
Their reason? She was “too affectionate.”
Wood couldn’t believe it.
“She was so friendly, rubbing against the glass and just wanting love,” Wood said. “I felt so sorry for her. I couldn’t understand why she was up for adoption.”
Determined to help, Wood took Ellie’s photo and shared her story online.
Within hours, her post went viral, reaching thousands of animal lovers.
One of them was Sammi Schouler.
“When I saw that she was returned for wanting too many snuggles, my heart broke,” Schouler said. “I knew she’d be perfect for me. I could give her all the love and attention she deserves.”
Schouler wasted no time. She visited the shelter, met Ellie, and welcomed her home. This time, there would be no limits on affection.
“She’s settling in so well!” Schouler shared. “At night, she sleeps on the bed next to my head. She loves being close.”
Instead of being pushed away, Ellie is now embraced for exactly who she is — a snuggly, affectionate cat who craves love.
For Julia Wood, who first shared Ellie’s story, the happy ending feels like the best holiday gift imaginable.
“When I saw that she was adopted, I cried a little,” Wood admitted. “Now she’s getting as many cuddles as she wants, and that makes me so happy.”
Christmas may still be days away, but for Ellie, the greatest gift has already arrived — a forever home where her cuddles are treasured.
