The quiet town of Bath, Somerset has been shaken by a heartbreaking discovery that has left locals outraged and demanding justice.
On March 7th, the lifeless body of Buddy, a black and brown Jagdterrier, was found in the River Avon — but this was no accident.
Buddy had been tied to a heavy weight, a rope knotted tightly around his neck in what authorities are calling a deliberate and brutal act of cruelty.
The RSPCA, now leading the investigation, described Buddy’s death as “heartless and gruesome” — and they are urgently appealing to the public for any information that could lead to those responsible.
“Buddy was intentionally killed in a heartless and gruesome way,” said RSPCA Inspector Dan Hatfield, who is heading the investigation.

For many in the Weston area of Bath, Buddy wasn’t just another dog — he was a familiar, friendly presence. His violent death has triggered an emotional outpouring from the community.
A post-mortem revealed that Buddy had been dead for 24 to 48 hours before his body was discovered.
Investigators believe he may have been seen in the area in the days leading up to his death — and they’re asking anyone who spotted him or noticed suspicious activity after March 1st to come forward.
“We’re hoping to speak to anyone who saw Buddy in the final days of his life,” said Hatfield. “Every piece of information could be crucial.”
The Truth Comes to Light
Buddy’s owner had reportedly told others he had surrendered the dog to a rescue organization — but that claim turned out to be false.
As days passed with no sign of Buddy, a concerned local who knew the owner posted a missing dog alert in a community group, desperate for answers.

Photos released by the RSPCA reveal the conditions in which Buddy was found — images that have left the community reeling.
“I can’t stop thinking about what that poor dog went through,” said one resident. “Who could do something like this?”
