Pittie Left at the Shelter in Her Pajamas Waits Quietly for the Family Who Never Returns

Pittie Left at the Shelter in Her Pajamas Waits Quietly for the Family Who Never Returns

For five years, Korra believed she had a forever home. She loved her family, trusted them, and assumed she’d always belong with them.

But when her allergies became too difficult for them to manage, they brought her to the Lancaster Animal Care Center — and left her there.

Still wearing her little pajamas, Korra sat trembling in her kennel, staring through the bars as if she was simply waiting for the door to open and her family to come back for her.

“She’s been very fearful since the day she arrived,” shelter volunteer Evelyn Garces told The Dodo. “She stayed in the back of her kennel, barking defensively with these wide, terrified eyes. I sat with her for a while, and when she finally came close, she just shook. It broke my heart … I knew I had to advocate for her.”

i can’t even begin to imagine how korra is feeling. heartbroken, scared, lonely, all of the above??? she spent 5 whole years of her life in a home just to end up here. she was fearful when she came in (who can blame her?!) so she is rescue only until she is evaluated by our behavior team. she is already being cleared for euthanasia after 5 days of being here. what is going on?!? korra is a lovely girl whom i already love so much. 5 years old and 59 lbs. she was surrendered because of her allergies (i don’t know to what unfortunately) A5733075 LANCASTER ANIMAL CARE CENTER; 5210 West Avenue I, Lancaster, CA 93536 • Public Hours 11am-5pm Monday thru Saturday (closed Sunday) Website: animalcare.lacounty.gov Email: DACCLancasterRescue@animalcare.lacounty.gov #shelterdog #cleartheshelters #lacounty #foryoupage #fyp

Once staff gently removed her pajamas, they realized Korra was painfully thin — the result of long-term allergies and not getting the nutrition she desperately needed. Volunteers cleaned her up, got her on a proper diet and supplements, and promised to help her start fresh.

Korra is still learning to trust, but the people who care for her see her potential shining through every day. They’re determined to get her into a real home — one where patience, calm energy, and understanding are part of the routine.

Evelyn Garces

“Korra would do best in a quiet home that’s open to slow introductions with other dogs and willing to give her time and space to open up,” Garces explained. “She has food allergies, so sticking to a specific diet is essential for her.”

Right now, Korra is scared — scared enough that her life is in danger. Because of her fearfulness, she could be euthanized unless a loving adopter or rescue steps in soon.

But to the people who know her, one thing is clear: in the right home, Korra could blossom.

“I know she has it in her,” Garces said. “She has the potential to be that wiggly, happy dog someday.”
