Protective Dog Follows Pregnant Mom Everywhere — Even Into The Shower

Diz has loved her dad since the day she was born — but when he got married, she happily expanded her heart to include her new mom, Brittany Johnson. From that moment on, Diz decided it was her job to keep her mom safe.

“She has always been super protective of me, especially when my husband isn’t with me,” Johnson told The Dodo.

A few months ago, Johnson and her husband found out they were expecting a baby. Diz seemed to notice the change — the new scent, the gentle shift in her mom’s routine — but at first, she stayed calm.

“She would lay with her head against my belly for the first few weeks,” Johnson said. “Then she just kinda ignored me.”

But recently, something clicked. Almost overnight, Diz’s “big sister mode” switched on. Suddenly, she refused to let her mom out of her sight — not even for a second.

“She’s had to be right next to me all the time,” Johnson said. “It’s like she realized there’s a baby in there, and now she has to protect us both.”

Diz follows her mom from room to room, always keeping watch — even during moments that should probably be private.

One day, while Johnson was taking a shower, Diz sat outside the bathroom door, waiting. After a few minutes, she started to worry her mom was taking way too long.

“So she peeked her head in,” Johnson said, laughing. “Then she just decided to sit in the shower with me — and stayed there until I was done.”

Soaked but satisfied, Diz clearly decided that the safest place for her mom was right beside her — even if it meant getting a little wet.

Now 20 weeks pregnant, Johnson says Diz has become her constant shadow, following her every step and guarding her as if her life depended on it.

“She’s just making sure nothing happens to me when she’s not watching,” Johnson joked.

Soon, Diz will have a baby sibling to protect, too. But for now, she’s practicing her new role — one shower at a time.
