Dogs have an incredible way of showing love — and sometimes, heartbreak too. One golden retriever named Wally recently reminded the internet just how deep that bond can run when he realized his parents were going on vacation without him.
Wally, who’s already a bit of a celebrity on TikTok under @wally.meets.world, became an instant viral sensation after his mom shared a video of his reaction to the news.
One viral video has proved that separation anxiety may not be just a parent-child thing. Turns out, that dogs have it too and they can communicate it in the most human way possible.
The clip, viewed over 5.5 million times, captures a scene every dog parent can relate to — that moment when your furry best friend knows you’re leaving and can’t hide how much it hurts.
In the video, Wally leans heavily against his mom, his head drooping low as she gently strokes his back.
“It’s okay, buddy. You’re going to have fun at Grandma’s, okay?” she tells him softly.
But Wally isn’t convinced. His tail stays still, his face full of sorrow. He lets out quiet, mournful grumbles as if to say, How could you go without me?
His mom continues to reassure him, explaining that she and his dad will be gone for five days — “five sleeps,” as she puts it — and that they’ll be back before he knows it. Still, Wally just sits there, lost in thought, staring off like someone nursing a broken heart.
“To be fair, this is how I feel about leaving him too,” Wally’s mom wrote in the caption.
Viewers across TikTok were devastated — and completely smitten — by the golden retriever’s dramatic display.

As soon as Grandma arrived to pick him up, everything changed. With a brand-new toy in her hand and a familiar, loving face, she turned Wally’s frown upside down. Within moments, his tail was wagging again, his toy proudly clutched in his mouth.
By the time his parents left, Wally was beaming — ready for a fun sleepover at Grandma’s house, his earlier heartbreak all but forgotten.
