Recently, a Pennsylvania resident spotted a small cardboard box sitting outside their home, with a simple, heartbreaking message scrawled on the side.
“The caller reported there was a box in front of their home labeled ‘free puppy,’” East Coast Bulldog Rescue director Sara Hornbeck told The Dodo.
Peering inside, the resident found an 8-week-old white puppy curled up and staring back — a tiny life left hoping someone would notice her.
Animal control quickly arrived to take the pup to their kennel, where she stayed only briefly before being transferred to East Coast Bulldog Rescue for care. Despite her rough start, the rescuers were amazed at her sweet demeanor and good health.
“Once we picked her up from the animal control kennel, we quickly discovered she was the sweetest, most lovable girl and surprisingly in good shape for a puppy who had been discarded like trash,” Hornbeck said.
The staff named the little pup Roxy and shared her story online. It didn’t take long for her to capture hearts.
“She very quickly stole the hearts of our social media followers,” Hornbeck said.
Among those touched by her story was the perfect family.
“A family member of a previous adopter specifically fell in love with Roxy,” Hornbeck explained. “Their family had just recently and suddenly lost their beloved dog, Junie Bug, and knew Roxy was the pup to help honor her memory and heal their hearts.”
Now safe in her forever home, Roxy is surrounded by love, companionship, and a family devoted to giving her the life she deserves.
