When Sanctuary Rescue learned about Abby, they knew she needed a soft landing. The 12-year-old beagle had been surrendered to a local shelter along with everything that told the story of her life — her bed, toys, sweaters, 12 years of medical records, and even a framed portrait.
Abby’s family had fallen on hard times and, despite loving her deeply, could no longer provide the care she needed. Wanting her to feel comforted and understood, they sent her off with all her familiar belongings, including the portrait as a symbol of their lasting love.
“We’re thinking of hanging the dog’s portrait in our office to remind us to be humble, to give grace, to spend energy on loving instead of judging, and to always help where and when we can,” Sanctuary Rescue wrote on Facebook. “You never know what the future holds or what curveballs life might throw at you.”
Abby has since settled into a foster home, where she’s quickly shown just how cherished she was.
Her foster mom reported that Abby wasted no time exploring — trying out every single dog bed in the house before deciding which one was just right.
“She thinks she’s Goldilocks,” the rescue joked.
Soon, Abby will be ready for adoption. Whoever welcomes her next will also receive her belongings, so they’ll know from the start how loved she’s always been.
