At Banita Creek Hall in Nacogdoches, Texas, the lights were dimmed and last call had already been announced. The night was winding down — until one uninvited guest waddled in to keep the party going.
It wasn’t a rowdy customer. It was an opossum.
The furry latecomer slipped in through a door near the parking lot, spotted by a customer named Jessica. Instead of panicking, she calmly stepped in to make sure the little intruder stayed safe.
“He was very calm, but she wanted to make sure he wasn’t in harm’s way around a ton of people,” a Banita Creek Hall spokesperson told The Dodo.
Channeling her inner bouncer, Jessica gently picked the chunky opossum up by the base of his tail — exactly as the Opossum Society of the United States recommends — and escorted him toward the exit.
Other bar patrons could only watch, wondering if they’d had one drink too many.
A short video captured the unusual moment, showing Jessica coolly removing the opossum as though it were the most normal end to a night out.
Here’s that moment on video:
Once outside, she released him safely away from the crowd, where he decided it was finally time to head on his way.
For her quick thinking and kind heart, Banita Creek Hall decided Jessica deserves a reward.
“Let’s just say her next couple of rounds are on us,” the spokesperson said.
